Thanks off beautiful walking Verzinner

Thank You, Tinker Bell Monday June 7, 2010

School's out, finally, and we decided to surprise our kids with a mini vacation. We headed down to San Antonio and went to Sea World, we explored the River Walk, and we had a grand adventure in the Natural Bridge Caverns. Of course, every vacation has to have a few glitches. Ours came on the way out of San Antonio when we got stuck in a construction related traffic jam resulting in us being stuck on the freeway for more than three hours during which we traveled a distance of less than 30 miles. Our kids became quite frustrated as we sat there, packed on the freeway like sardines, especially our 2yo who began screaming, "I needa go potty!" Little did they know, we had 5 more hours of driving, and that was if the traffic situation improved.

Enter Tinker Bell. The Tinker Bell movies are of the few that our 2-year-old will actually sit through from beginning to end, and our oldest still loves them as well. Finally, total silence from the back seats.

One reason o! ur road trip movie theater works so well is that we never turn the car DVD player on unless we are on a road trip of two hours or more. This is only my personal preference, but I don't want my kids glued to the tiny TV every time we jump in the car to go anywhere. First, because I think they miss out on things like learning their surroundings, seeing interesting things out the window, and singing along with the cute kids' songs we listen to as we drive -- not to mention that very fascinating questions come out of my 5-year-old when she is left to her own thoughts in the back seat for a while. Also, the DVD player is now a very novel privilege that very effectively entertains them when we do have to spend hours in the car.

Of course, I will have to endure a week or so of our youngest begging to watch TV every time we get in the car now that she has seen the magic of it all. But eventually she, like the older two, gets the fact that it's not going to happen and will st! op asking until the next road trip comes around.

All the movie reviews. The best films
